Insurance We Accept

Our eye care clinic accepts a wide variety of medical insurance plans to help us better serve the medical and optical needs of all our patients. As part of our wide-ranging commitment to serve the needs of families and individuals throughout our community, we are one of the few practices in southern Maine that accept state insurance. This allows us to serve the broadest segment of our community possible.

Still not sure if your insurance is accepted? Ask our eye care team for help the next time you come in for your annual eye exam or an update for your glasses or contact lens prescription.

Why Doesn’t Kittery Optometric Associates Accept My Insurance?
At Kittery Optometric Associates, we emphasize a comprehensive approach to eye care that may sometimes cause us to be unable to accept certain vision plans that only focus on basic screenings and eyewear discounts. Such plans often do not cover the full range of diagnostic services required for a thorough eye exam and are designed primarily to offer glasses and contacts quickly and inexpensively while often sacrificing quality

We prioritize the full gambit of comprehensive eye health services, which can help detect early signs of conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration, something not addressed by many basic vision plans. Our team believes in providing personalized and high-quality care and products, which often exceeds the limitations of these insurance plans. This approach ensures patients receive the comprehensive and attentive care they deserve, even if it means not being able to accept certain vision plans. Please also note that while we do our best to check insurances before your appointment, it is ultimately the patient's responsibility to know their insurance plan and coverage, including whether or not they have a separate vision plan.
A Further Note
No matter your level of coverage, speak to our eye care team about whether your refraction, meant to determine your glasses or contact lens prescription, is covered. In some cases, your insurance may consider this a separate service, which is not covered. In this case, you are responsible to pay for the refraction, even if the rest of your exam is covered.
